New Xmas ornaments The wife wanted to hang the stockiings under the bay window. She had envisioned these cute little rings that were a nice brass with balls on the ends. My stocking in particular is large and would drag on the floor. I also questioned the maximum GVW of these under-engineered peices of tin. I really have my hopes up this year. So now it was just a simple matter of creating something that the wife would allow in to the house and more importantly would support my expected stocking booty. Step 1: I did a quick inventory and found some 2x3x1/4 tubeing and I eyed it up but thought that it might be just a bit overkill, even for me. Next I found some 1/2 inch cold-roll. Hmm... perfect. Step 2: Take the torch and bend a few curlicues in the bar to meet minimum wife approval standards. Step 3: Grind off just enough rust to get the welder to draw an arc and weld all of the bent up peices together. Step4:To qualify for the nice category (rather than naughty)... A good coat of paint, it also keeps the rusty old thing from marking up the carpet. Here's to the hope that Santa approves, hmm, perhaps I should consider an upgrade on the stocking. Only one problem, the wife won't let me have the iron back after Christmas and there's still two nice straight peices. |
