My Cockshutt 30 Ignition repair

My Cockshutt 30 that I use to push snow on the driveway finally wore out the distributor shaft to the point that the points could not be set properly any more. The options that I had were to replace the distributor with a new one at a high cost and frustration of finding one or be creative. I choose plan B.

Neat blade I built from an old set of Boss loader frames EH! Note the muffler from a 1981 escort (after it rusted off its original host vehicle).

So I was looking at the distributor and noticed that the basic idea was the same as my 78 Plymouth in the bush. I then removed the distributor from the car and the tractor and began to swap parts. Some of them almost fit. It took some grinding to get the pickup plate to fit in the housing. The next step was to simply grind off every other point on the reluctor wheel. After I had removed 2 of them it dawned on me that I never checked to see which set I was removing. I did have a 50/50 chance of being right and you have to get lucky once in a while.

A hacksaw later and I had a proprietary custom rotor.

Mounting the module was easy.

Now the distributor can flop around and not affect the timing. It has also never ran better.

What's next for the old girl? I was thinking electronic fuel injection and maybe power door locks.
