Insulation tips for Canadian Winter

Just a tip for us idiots who live in the frozen north EH!

It occurred to me that my little aluminum four cylinder engine was dropping to ambient air temperature in about one hour. This was unacceptable here as the temp can be minus 30 degrees Celsius as a daytime high. A thought just then hit me. It was still warm in the house, why? because we have insulation. I thought the car should have some too.

Step 1 to acquire some insulation. As I recall I insulated the basement entrance with fiberglass pink last summer so I decided to steal...lift...borrow...liberate it. (I like the word liberate)

Step 2 was just a matter of packing it around the engine of my puddle-jumper. As all good DIY's know glass doesn't burn , but does a fine job of sopping up grime off the engine. I was carefull to leave an open area on both sides of the radiator for cooling.

Note the easy access of the block heater cord that I stole...lift....borr.....liberated from an old power supply after the original broke.

SUCCESS!!! as always--the engine now holds temperature for several hours. Which means not having to park only where electrical outlets grow. We can play till all hours of the evening with friends and family without having to consider parking there till spring.

As an added bonus engine noise is also substantially reduced so passersby no longer notice the lifters rattling.
