Yet another trip home

This year we acquired a small motor home from the father-in-law. This unit was in tip top shape when it was parked in the shed.....4 years ago. I was expecting some sort of mechanical issue due to the length of time that it had been sitting and I was right, just my luck.

We got it running without much hassle and the tires even had enough air to get it from the shed to the garage where the compressor was.

A small electrical repair and it had brake lights again, filled the tires with air and away we go. So simple, luck was on my side as far as the end of the mile long driveway, anyway.

After some diagnostics it would appear that the fuel pump had failed. This unit has a chevy engine and I knew I didn't have a used one laying around, it was also late Saturday afternoon, so as usual new parts were not an option. I removed the pump and blew it out which made it better but after it was reinstalled it would still not work. The father-in-law had a chev grain truck that I could borrow a pump from, that pump was removed but was not compatible, so back it went to its donor.

I was getting tired of removing and installing fuel pumps at this point.

On to plan 'B'

I thought I may have a pump of some sort at home so of we go, hour and a half round trip. I pulled out my bin labeled "pumps" and it wasn't empty, go figure!

I found an electric pump in there that just may work. It was a water pump but it only had to hang in there for 35 miles.

So I just had to creatively attach it and plumb it in.

The pump survived the slow and not too steady 35 mile trip, but was dead by the next morning. I did splurge for the $30 to purchase a new one-- brand new, in a clean box with Chevy fuel pump actually printed on it. No one's perfect.
