Seat heater switch repair

The seat heater switch on my wing became very hard to turn. In fact the wife could not operate it so she had cold buns. A repair was in order especially after strong hints that I was not to use MY heated seat until hers was fixed. She checked....

First step is to remove the offending switch.

now to take it apart and see what makes it tick.

pry to the side and remove the back. The pocket screwdriver is also my friend.

A small phillips screwdriver removes the two screws and the contact plate.

The contact wheel and back plate just pop out.

next we find a 'jesus' clip. Why do we call this a jesus clip you ask? It is because usually you will find these in a very awkward location on combines and they tend to go flying in an unknown direction landing somewhere in the wheat stubble. With no replacement handy its name will become apparent and repeated very loudly.

In this case it just pops off and lays in the housing for easy recovery. How odd?

The knob will then slide off the housing.

Ah ha! the offending little pin! This pin is what holds the switch in the detent. It tends to build up with road grit and makes the switch sticky.

Pin removed. It just needs a bit of cleaning and it will be good to go.

The only thing noteworthy on reassembly is to be careful installing the contact wheel. Make sure it is in correct alignment with the knob drive.

Now my wife, as always, has a hot ***! Oh, did I type that out loud or was I just thinking that? Added bonus-- the whine in the intercom is gone! Two for one deal
