Cruise Control test bench

I did some tinkering with the throttle linkage and cruise control this winter and wanted to make sure it was all up to par when and if spring should arrive to northern climates.

I didn't think that poking around at the linkages was a good idea at 100km/h so I had to devise a way to check the system while standing still.

I tried to spin the front wheel by hand and although it was good exercise it did not produce the speed necessary to engage the cruise control.

Time to check the inventory! I found a nic DC electric motor that came out of a tread mill and it had a nice flat flywheel surface on it. Some creative mounting and presto!

With 36 volts supplied from some car batteries it runs at 60Km/h, fast enough to engage the crusie system.

By turning the handle bars the front wheel would coast and the throttle would pick up. Tinkering completed with no fancy Evel Knievel stunts on the open road required.

All I need now is some warm weather!
