The Review!

One of the little indignities of life is having to pull out your calculator and tables of constants in order to perform conversion calculations - frustrating! It's always nice to have a good tool to help you with conversions, and iUnit is one of those good tools.

As you can see from the above pull down menu in the conversion window, there are a tremendous number of conversions to choose from - I couldn't think of any that were missing. Using the program is very easy. Just pick the unit that you wish to convert, enter the value, and you will see the conversion in all other possible units:

The only issue I had with this conversion window is its resizeability. I don't understand why you can make the window longer, but not wider. Because it is not fully adjustable, some units are truncated and not completely readable, which may present a problem for students:

The program includes a very convenient constant window that is organized by category, so finding the constant you need is easy:

You'll note that the conversions also include currency, but if you want the latest conversion factors, you have to manually load a new conversion text file every time you want an update. It would be really nice if you could click a button and have this occur automatically with an open Internet connection.

iUnit is convenient and easy-to-use, but it could use a couple of new features. One that seems to be a no-brainer is the program opening up to the last performed conversion. Often users will perform the same conversion many times in a row - why should you have to manually select the conversion you need every time you start the program? Another nice feature would be to have few clickable buttons that will take you to your favourite conversions, and/or a customizable pull-down menu (if you are never going to use magnetic flux density, why should you have it in your menu?)

Despite the minor shortcomings, this is a handy little utility - grab it for your desktop today!
