The Review!

I really like MacMolecule! MM has a very intuitive and well-structured interface - manipulating controls are on buttons at the top of the molecule window. No "window jumping" is necessary to switch views... you can rotate the model you have chosen in real time and just as easily switch the view to space filling or stick models.

For the high school environment, you really want to be able to do 3 things well; show examples of molecules, have students be able to change simple parameters (such as views), and switch between molecules, all very easily. MacMolecule does all of this, and it does it with flair... I really like the look of "side-lighting" they have included... it gives a "reach out and touch" quality to the images.

Another bonus is that thousands of molecules have been rendered for you already! After you have downloaded the demo from the MacMolecule site, check out their links to thousands of free molecular models. Don't forget to go to the link listed above for an excellent online tutorial! There will always be a place for little springs and wooden balls in the laboratory... but when you approach that nervous breakdown trying to build an ATP, you'll be glad that you bought MacMolecule!
