The Review!
When it comes to picking computer resources for biology, it can be difficult to find a really good CD - there's a lot to choose from. When I'm looking for one, I try to determine if the following criteria are met; are the graphics crisp and clear? Is the information well presented? Is the content presented in a unique and compelling manner? I'm pleased to report that the Blood and Circulatory System CD from NeoSci meets these critieria very well!

This CD is packed with resources, tests and labs. Let's start first with the anatomy section - it's great! As you work your way through the frames of this section, you'll find great photos and graphics. You can also choose to have the frames narrated, and moving from frame to frame is effortless and smooth.

Did I say labs? Labs on a CD? Yes! NeoSci has done a wonderful job of creating interactive activities, such as ABO blood typing and hemocrit determination. These activities are meaningful and come very close to the real thing.

The CD also comes with a teacher resource section. The testing section of the CD is a little short on questions, I'd like to see a lot more. There's certainly room for more content on the CD, so I'd strongly suggest this as an improvement for future versions. Also, the questions are mostly just text, and could really use spicing up with graphics.

On the whole, ScienceMan thinks this Blood and Circulatory System Cd is a good investment and would be of good use in your Junior High or Senior high class. Good job, NeoSci!

June 25, 2001 update
I was lucky enough to to get my hands on one of the latest offerings from NeoSci, their "Cell Structure and Function" CD-ROM. At first look, I'm very impressed - the CD has interactive lab sections, tests (with the ability to edit your own), tutorials, and much more;

The tutorial sections are well designed and cover all of the relevant material well. You can click on the above right image for a full screen view. ScienceMan will publish an in-depth review of this CD in the coming weeks... (along with a cool NeoSci blood investigation kit) in the meantime, check out the NeoSci site for more cool CD-ROMs!
