Floating on a Heavy Gas

Sulphur hexafluoride is a gas that is 6 times more dense than air. As a result, it can readily be "poured" into tanks and containers. As the video clearly shows, objects made of aluminum foil can float on the gas.

Because it is inert, sulphur hexafluoride (SF6) can safely be inhaled in small quantities - like any other gas that displaces oxygen, you can't breathe it for a very long time before you run into trouble! When you speak after breathing SF6, your voice will be much lower due to much slower vibrating vocal cords.
